Workplace disability inclusion companion pack Chapter 2

Information we need from you

What you will learn in this chapter

  • What we need to know about your organisation
  • How much detail we need from you
  • Why we need this information
  • Your organisation review questionnaire

The programme begins with a review of your organisation’s existing policies and procedures. This will help us assess which areas you need the most support with. It will also help us track your progress.

Here are some questions your advisor will ask you when you first meet. As well as the information they will need to create your report. You may want to make stakeholders aware of what you need to prepare some of this data beforehand.

Here is a summary of the types of information we will need, though it is not comprehensive:

Employee demographics

  • How many disabled people do you currently employ?
  • How much information do you collect on disabled employees?
  • Is it mandatory or voluntary to provide this information?

This will give us an idea about the information you have on your existing disabled employees. It also helps us understand the data you gather throughout their employment.

Policies

Does your organisation have the following policies in place?

  • Guaranteed interview scheme
  • Reasonable adjustment (including flexible working for under 26-week service)
  • Disability leave

This section looks at the existing policies you have in place to support disabled employees. This covers both existing and prospective employees.

We will review a maximum of 8 policies and procedures in this review stage.

Recruitment

  • How do you currently advertise job vacancies?
  • What are your most recruited roles?
  • How often do you recruit those roles?

This gives us a better idea of your hiring process, from candidate interviews to onboarding. We’ll also discuss the types of employment your organisation offers. For example, apprenticeships, part-time, full-time, traineeships, work experience and for which roles.

Culture

  • How often does disability come up in workplace conversations?
  • Is disability awareness training part of your onboarding procedure?
  • Does your organisation effectively support employees manage a health condition or disability?

We want to get a feel for what it’s like to work in your organisation, whether you’re disabled or not.

Retention

  • How does your organisation support existing employees with workplace adjustments?
  • Does your organisation capture data when employees leave?

Tell us a bit about your staff retention rates in this section.

Important

We need as much detail as possible about how your organisation currently works. The more information you can give us, the more we can help you.
